A football or rugby pitch needs marking more than once a season. Here's a practical guide to scheduling remarking so your pitches always look the part.
Pre-season (August–September)
Book an initial marking before the season starts. This is the full set-out — every line laid fresh. Book early, as this is our busiest period. If you have multiple pitches, get them all done in one visit.
Early season (September–October)
Lines are usually still good from the initial marking. Monitor after heavy use or heavy rain. If lines are fading, book an overmarking visit — don't wait until they disappear entirely.
Mid-season (November–February)
This is when pitches take the most punishment. Wet weather, lower temperatures, and constant play mean lines fade faster. Expect to overmark every 4–6 weeks. If you have fixtures, try to book remarking at least 3 days before a match so lines are fresh but paint has time to settle.
Late season (March–May)
As the weather improves and growth resumes, lines last longer. Overmarking every 6–8 weeks is usually sufficient. This is also a good time to assess whether your pitch needs any repairs or renovation before the summer break.
Summer (June–July)
Most pitches get a rest. If you're running summer leagues or training, light overmarking keeps things tidy. This is also the ideal time to book any layout changes — new pitches, resized formats, or additional markings like training grids.
The simple rule
Walk your pitch every two weeks. If the lines are still clearly visible, you're fine. If they're getting faint, book overmarking before they disappear. It's always cheaper and faster to overmark than to do a full initial marking because you left it too long.
